The Taw U3A holiday in October 2024 was to the Elan Valley in Mid Wales.  We had a leisurely trip on the Dragonfly Barge along the Brecon Canal, spotted picnickers braving the weather, and a group of children suitably dressed for the occasion of canoeing.

The Elan Valley itself was majestic.  We had a tour guide on our coach and we learned many things about the dams, such as the reason for them being built was to supply Birmingham with clean water, how quickly it was completed, how equipment and tools were transported to and from the site, the workers having to walk miles to and from work, the men being allowed 3 or 4 baths a week but the women only one, and alcohol virtually forbidden but was then allowed due to poor morale.

The whole holiday became a water theme when we couldn’t get into Hereford because of flooding in the centre and surrounding area, but the weather didn’t stop us hardy stalwarts from enjoying the whole holiday.

Norfolk 11th - 15th May 2025

Coach Trip to Norfolk. Itinerary included visits to Sandringham, a trip on the Bure Valley Railway with a cruise on the Norfolk Boards, plus trips to Norwich and Great Yarmouth.

We had a great holiday and the weather was good. Fantastic views of the lake District and on the Settle to Carlisle railway. Looking forward to the spring holiday next May.
